June 20, 2025 – NY State Senator John C. Liu announced the State Senate passed his bill, S825, to protect child social media influencers by requiring their parents to create trust funds, ensuring their kids get their fair share when they turn 18 years old.

Sadly, the corresponding Assembly Bill, A00774, did not advance beyond the committee stage during the 2025 New York legislative session. It was introduced on January 8, 2025, and referred to the Assembly Labor Committee where it was not acted upon before the closure of the 2025 session.

Previous Updates:

New York Senator John Liu has introduced New York Senate Bill S825, which would establish protections for minors who are featured in monetized digital content.

This type of legislation ensures that when parents run monetized social media channels as a type of family business, the kids featured in the channel will have access to the profits that they help to generate.

S825 also protects the privacy of these children by allowing them the “right to be forgotten,” a necessary provision in the age of increasing digital monitoring and developing AI technologies.
